For this project, we were tasked with creating a book cover for an existing book. I chose ‘The Cruel Prince’ by Holly Black. The book is YA Fantasy and I wanted to incorporate that into my design. I focused on the environment of the series. The book is filled with nature not seen by ordinary humans, making it very mystical. This is about a young girl trying to find her place in a society where humans are disregarded.
The sketch I chose to move forward with showcased the main components of the story in the book. I wanted to emphasize the mystical and fairie aspect, making it true to the fantasy genre of the book. Each element is important, and as the reader goes through the book, they will understand the references on the cover. My goal was to entice the reader, making them intrigued and pick up the book as they would have before they passed it by.

Completely changed the color and design but still had the tree as a focal point, this felt closer to the environment I wanted to portray.
